StemoniX is accelerating the discovery of new drugs by creating ready-to-use pre-clinical plates containing biologically relevant human microOrgans®. Engineered from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), these microOrgan® platforms enable high throughput human drug screening without the need for drugs to enter a human body.  This unprecedented capability, combined with StemoniX’s scalable, high-volume manufacturing processes, has the potential to deliver significant cost and time savings to the pharmaceutical industry.
StemoniX’s microOrgan platforms offer the potential to enhance the safety, consistency, and accuracy of human clinical trials, which today rely on animal models and small human clinical trials as predictors of drug interactions across an entire patient population. StemoniX is advancing its stem cell technology to provide on-demand services and pre-plated microOrgans® for populations, disease groups, or even individuals, allowing for customized drug discovery and potentially leading to a new era of personalized and regenerative medicine.

Accelerating Discovery

StemoniX’s co-founder and CEO Ping Yeh was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2012. Ping’s path to recovery was challenging – his cancer was resistant to chemotherapy. To survive, Ping needed to receive the max potency (max toxicity) treatment; however, the only way to test whether his heart survived the drug toxicity was a post-treatment measurement. Stunned that there wasn’t a way to pre-test medications, Ping took his knowledge of nanotechnology and skills leading cross-functional teams to solve this challenging problem in the life science industry. Ping now leads a team that is upending conventional drug development and toxicity testing by enabling researchers to quickly and economically conduct high throughput toxicity and drug development studies in ready-to-assay plates containing functional microOrgans engineered from hiPSCs.
